For People Who Have an Issue With Beyoncé, Jay-Z and Blue Ivy Sitting During the National Anthem
Wow. So many thoughts.
1. Part of the third stanza of The Star-Spangled Banner reads as such
"No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the
gloom of the grave..."
NO ONE who is descended from those enslaved in the US should be expected to stand for a song containing these words. NO ONE.
2. Many veterans fought to protect our rights as American citizens. One of those rights is the right to peacefully protest. That's what sitting or kneeling during the national anthem is. There are many veterans that supported Colin Kaepernick's protests and continue to support him.
3. Literally, what does the national anthem have to do with veterans? Like, literally what? Many people claiming this is about veterans, not being patriotic, etc. are just using that as a cover for their racism.
And that’s on period, Pooh. Happy Black History Month!
