About That Discussion of Colorism on The Real Housewives of Potomac Reunion
So I want to address this colorism conversation around the use of the word "aggressive" because I don’t think it was discussed clearly during the reunion. White people often call Black women, particularly darker-skinned Black women, aggressive when they’re not acting aggressively. That’s racism. When lighter-skinned Black women call darker-skinned Black women aggressive when they’re not acting aggressively, that’s colorism. Now, that being said, I do think Wendy acted in an aggressive manner in her argument with Ashley because her response was disproportionate to what Ashley said.
However, Wendy is correct that Ashley should be careful, as a light-skinned, biracial Black woman, about calling a darker-skinned Black woman aggressive because it has the appearance of colorism even if that wasn’t her intention.
